Healing in Your Own Private Room

Healing in Your Own Private Room For most people, when they’re admitted to the hospital, there is nothing more disappointing than having to share a room with another patient.  It’s awkward to share a space with a complete stranger, especially when you’re not feeling well.  For most hospitals, private rooms are only delegated for high-profile VIP patients, but at Bayfront Health Punta Gorda, all of their patients are considered to be VIPs, as they now provide private rooms on their main campus.  No other facility in the area can offer this kind of service to its community.

Having your own room to heal in is not only convenient; it’s more comfortable for the patients and their family members that are visiting.  The entire process makes much more sense, when we are in a compromised position because it allows for a less stressful atmosphere.

The trouble back in the in the early1900s, when they advocated for large rooms filled with the sick, sometimes full of 20-30 people at a time, was that the infection rate and spreading of disease increased substantially.  Even if you share a room with just one other person, the susceptibility of contagion is widespread.  Reasoning this further, when multiple visitors from more than one family come into the room, the potential for bacteria and infection increases even more so.

Some patients are uncomfortable with discussing their condition, symptoms, or general health concerns with the nurses, physicians, or staff in front of another person.  In these cases, patients may withhold valuable information with the medical team and therefore decrease their healing and proper care through this omission.

Getting the appropriate amount of rest when you’re in the hospital is critical for you to heal successfully.  Without the needed sleep, your body will have a difficult time bouncing back.  If you’re sharing a room with a stranger, they may keep you awake by talking, using the bathroom, coughing, their visitors disrupting your rest or your overall discomfort with them being in your room.

Because there are fewer obstacles to maneuver around when you’re in your own room, having a private room also decreases your chances of hazards related to tripping and falling. The staff is also able to take care of you better, because it’s more of a one-on-one interaction, and they are focused solely on you.

Although there is still some concern over socialization, the movement over the past few years is for most hospitals and facilities to make these options available to their patients, because it’s understood that the benefits of private rooms vs. multi-patient rooms far outweigh any concerns of social interaction helping in the healing process.  While social interaction is important, the staff at Bayfront Health Punta Gorda is educated in making your treatment as happy, and light as your individual circumstances will allow.

Bayfront Health made this initiative a top priority, and they’re proud to offer their patients updated modern rooms along with the privacy factor.

“Here at Bayfront Health Punta Gorda, we understand that a stay in an all-private room can make patients more comfortable,” says Drew Emery, CEO. “Converting to all-private rooms will be a tremendous benefit for our patients and their family members, as well as for our physicians, nurses and the entire staff.”

If you or your loved one is in need of an inpatient hospitalization, Bayfront Health Punta Gorda is dedicated to your privacy and superior healthcare.  To find out more about their facility, please visit them at BayfrontCharlotte.com.
