Creating Positive Mental Flow

Creating Positive Mental Flow“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”

This is Mahatma Gandhi sharing his wisdom. He put into words exactly the path I’ve walked this past decade. A decade of finding peace within. The sun’s light may have been shining upon me back then, but it could not permeate through the darkness that consumed me; or so I thought. One cold, January day in 2010 I choose to embrace whatever change was required of me to achieve that which I desired – to live my life anew.

Learning each day, one thought at a time, how to choose the direction of my prevailing “thought-winds.” This requires a willingness to live each day with increasing intention. Intention to understand lessons that are always on offer to us. To learn, embrace change first in thought and then in one’s actions; to override old habitual ways of being. (“Old” isn’t always bad, but “old” often means “stuck.”)

Will you join me and take some moments to be present with your own thoughts as they are right now? Let’s sort out distractions, which may hinder our focus and tear us away from the precious now.

How does one create a more positive mental flow? It is doing what is necessary to accomplish the task of changing one’s thoughts, words, behavior, habits and values to bring us into a positive mental energy flow. I call this “Sharpening One’s Mindset.” Creating a more positive mental flow is a process that can become a new daily habit. Accomplishing this “thought adjustment” requires creating more awareness which brings about greater clarity. It’s this clarity that we apply in our decision-making that gets us to our desired outcome. We put process into action.

Take a moment and re-read Gandhi’s quote. Substituting “my” for “your” while adding “I choose to” at the beginning. Take in how applicable these thoughts now are to you. Yes, we can begin to choose a more productive dialogue with ourselves. This authentic power provides positive energy to create the mental flow you desire. This power already lies within you.

Did you set realistic and/or daring goals for 2020? Are you achieving them? If you’ve tried, but not succeeded, choose to try again. Feeling this positive effort and energy comes from your daily commitment to achieving or even exceeding your goal or desire.

Be kind and patient with yourself. It takes some time before a new behavior becomes second nature and overrides your used-to-be habit.

Congratulations are in order if you are on target to obtain your aimed-for goals! Keep going! Intention packs its own energy. Keep your positive energy building on itself.

“Embrace change. True success can be defined by your ability to adapt to changing circumstances.”
